# Language, theme and where AI runs

> How to switch the Slicer interface language, choose the light or dark theme and where AI runs by default — on the device or in the cloud.

Slicer works in Russian and English and in two themes — light and dark. Both settings are in **Profile**. In the app, that’s also where you choose where AI runs by default: on the device or in the cloud.

**Demo (iPhone):**

1. Profile: the Language and Theme rows
2. Tap Русский — the interface switches to Russian
3. Tap English — the interface is back in English
4. Flip the Theme switch — the interface goes dark

## Language

In the **Language** row, choose “Русский” or “English” — the interface switches at once. The language is saved in your account: after you sign in on another device, Slicer opens in the same language. Slicer emails also come in this language.

Before you sign in, Slicer uses the language of your browser or device, and if you came from slicer.media — the language of the page you came from.

> **Note.** The interface language does not affect the language of your reels: the AI detects which language you speak. To translate captions into another language, use the editor — [Caption translation](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/editor/translate/).

## Theme

The theme switch is in three places:

-   in the screen header — next to the balance;
-   on a wide screen — at the bottom of the sidebar;
- in **Profile** → the **Theme** row.

On first launch the theme follows your system — light or dark, as on the device. A theme you choose by hand is remembered on this device.

## Where AI runs

In the app for iPhone, iPad and Mac, Captions from speech, Remove background and Follow the face can run on the device itself — for free, or in the cloud — at cost. **Profile** → **Where AI runs** sets what's preselected:

-   **On device** (the default) — Apple's models on your device recognize speech, find the person and look for the face;
- **In the cloud** — an AI service, just like on the web.

It's only the default: you can change it in each operation's sheet. When the device can't do an operation — the videos were uploaded from another device or the language isn't supported — the sheet offers the cloud by itself. More in [Captions from speech](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/editor/speech/#where), [Remove background](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/ai/remove-background/#where) and [Follow the face](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/editor/frame/#follow-face).

On the web AI runs in the cloud, and **Profile** explains: **In the browser AI runs in the cloud. In the app for iPhone, iPad and Mac, captions from speech, background removal and face tracking can run on the device itself — for free.**
