# Elements: hook, plaques, cards, emoji, zooms

> How to add and edit a reel's graphics in the Slicer editor — the hook, plaques, media cards, emoji and zooms: text, timing by words or clip, place in frame.

Source: https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/editor/elements/

Elements are the graphics and accents over the video. The AI places them during the montage, and you can also add a plaque, a media card, an emoji or a zoom by hand:

-   **Hook** — a catchy line in the first seconds of the reel, so viewers don't scroll past;
-   **Plaques** — text blocks: the speaker's name and role, key numbers, lists, quotes;
-   **Media cards** — illustrations of what you're talking about, with a caption;
-   **Emoji** — above the captions on key words;
- **Zooms** — camera motion on an important phrase.

Free text anywhere in the frame is a [title](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/editor/titles/) — titles have their own page.

An element is tied to words of the speech or, where there is no speech, to the time of a clip. Either way it holds on to its clip: if you reorder or trim clips, the elements travel with them (Time anchoring).

**Demo (Web):**

1. Press “Elements” in the main set — the element list opens to the right of the preview
2. Type “Edit a reel in 3 minutes” into “Hook” and press Enter
3. Fix a plaque title — the preview updates
4. Pause on an emoji and drag it higher on the preview
5. Go back “‹ Timeline” and click a zoom on the elements track
6. Press “Push in” — the type changes to “Pull out”

## Where elements come from

During the montage the AI adds elements according to the project settings: “Generate a hook”, “Plaques & callouts”, “Media cards”, “Emoji in captions”, “Camera motion”. In the editor you can edit, move and delete them.

There are two ways to add new elements:

- **By hand** — a plaque, media card, emoji, zoom or title goes in at the playhead (below). The hook is typed into the **Hook** field.
- **In plain words** — the [AI assistant](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/ai/assistant/): “Add emoji to key words”, “Make a price plaque on the words about the cost”, “Add a zoom on the key phrase”. The assistant adds a card with an image description — the AI draws the image on export.

## Add an element by hand

**Demo (iPhone):**

1. Swipe the strip to the right spot and tap “Elements” — the “Add at the playhead” block
2. Tap “Emoji” — a sheet with the emoji grid and search
3. Type “coffee” and tap ☕ — “Added at 0:04”, the emoji is in the preview
4. Tap “Plaque”, pick the “Number” type, type “3 steps” and the lines
5. Tap “Add plaque” — the plaque is in the preview, and the “Plaques” list shows it with its time

### 1. Place the playhead

The element goes in where the playhead is now.

### 2. Choose what to add

Open the **Elements** mode. At the top is the **Add at the playhead** block with the **Title**, **Plaque**, **Emoji**, **Zoom** and **Card** buttons. Under the sheet title you see where the element will go: **Goes in at 0:04. Move and stretch it on the elements track.**

### 3. Fill it in and add it

| Element | What to fill in | Lasts at first |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Plaque** | The type — **Title**, **Number**, **List**, **Quote** or **Name**; a title of up to 60 characters; every type except the title also has lines (**Lines — up to 4, one per line**), up to 120 characters each. The **Add plaque** button | 2.5 s |
| **Emoji** | Tap an emoji in the grid. Search understands words in English and Russian: **Search: fire, money, idea…** | 1.3 s |
| **Zoom** | The type — **Push in**, **Pull out** or **Punch** (what they look like); **Zoom strength** — from ×1.05 to ×1.6. The **Add zoom** button | 1.5 s |
| **Title** | Text and style — [Titles](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/editor/titles/) | 3 s |
| **Card** | Your own photo or an image from a description, and a caption — A media card by hand | 2.5 s |

When it's done you'll see **Added at 0:04**.

If a word is heard right under the playhead, the element goes on the words — as with the AI. If there's no speech there, it is tied to the time of the clip. If the word already has an emoji, the new one replaces it. You can't add an element when the playhead is past the end of the reel or this kind of element is at its limit: **Can’t add here: the playhead is past the end, or this kind of element is at its limit.**

## A media card by hand

A media card is an illustration over the video with a caption: the product you're talking about, a place, a result. You can add one yourself — from your own photo or from an image the AI draws from your description. The **Card** button in the **Add at the playhead** block opens the **Media card** sheet with two tabs.

### Your own photo

### 1. Pick a photo

The **Own photo** tab shows the project's photos: the ones uploaded in the wizard and the ones added in the editor. If the one you need isn't there, the first tile uploads a new one:

**Web**

**Upload a photo** — choose a file on your computer.

**iPhone and iPad**

**From Photos** — choose a picture in Photos.

The uploaded photo is selected right away and added to the project media. While the photo is being processed, its tile shows **preparing…**. If the project has no photos yet, you see **No photos in the project yet — upload your own.**

### 2. Type a caption

**Caption** — up to 80 characters; it can stay empty.

### 3. Add the card

Press **Add card**. The card goes in at the playhead like any element, and you see **Added at 0:04**.

It's free: **Free: the photo goes into the card with rounded corners, a frame and a shadow — just like in the final video.** The preview shows such a card right away — exactly as it will look in the reel after export.

### An image from a description

### 1. Describe the image

In the **From a description** tab, describe the image in the **What to show** field — 3 to 300 characters, for example “a cup of coffee on a wooden table, morning light”. Below it is the card's **Caption**.

### 2. Generate

Press the “Generate” button — the price is written right on it. The image usually takes 10–30 seconds, then the card goes in at the playhead.

One image is charged at cost — ≈0.65 tokens. Tokens are charged only if the image is made; if it isn't, try a different description. The finished image is saved to the project media: you can put it into other cards from the **Own photo** tab — for free. In the project history this work is called **Card from a description** ([History and versions](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/projects/history/)).

### Replace photo

Every card in the **Media cards** list and a selected card on the strip have a **Replace photo** button. It opens the **Card photo** sheet with the same tabs: pick another photo or generate an image from a description — the card's timing, place in the frame and caption stay the same, and you see **Card photo replaced**. This also works for an image the AI drew during the montage.

## The Elements mode

Open **Elements** in the main set (or **Text** → **Title and plaques**). All elements are listed by group; each has a time (click it to seek the preview) and the words it's tied to, or the label **by time** if it holds on to the time of a clip.

| Group | What you can do |
| --- | --- |
| **Hook** | Type or fix the line (up to 120 characters). **Leave empty for no hook.** The hook shows for the first ~2.5 seconds of a reel longer than 3 seconds |
| **Titles** | Open the title sheet or delete ([Titles](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/editor/titles/)) |
| **Plaques** | Change the title (up to 60 characters) and the lines in the **Lines — one per line** field (up to 4 lines). Delete |
| **Media cards** | Change the **Caption** (up to 80 characters), **Replace photo** (more), delete. A new card from the assistant shows **No image yet — the AI will generate it on export.** While your own photo is being processed — **Photo is being prepared** |
| **Emoji** | Click an emoji to seek the preview to it; ✕ to delete |
| **Zooms** | The zoom's words or time; ✕ to delete |

An empty group tells you how to add the first element, for example: **No plaques yet — “Plaque” above adds one at the playhead.**

Text applies when you leave the field or press `Enter` — each edit is one undo step. If an element's words or its spot in the clip are cut from the reel, you see “cut” instead of the time: the element comes back with what was cut.

**Revert to the AI version** at the bottom of the list brings the whole reel back to the AI version — not just the elements, but all editor changes. A confirmation appears first; you can bring your edits back with **Redo**.

## Place in the frame

In the **Elements** mode: **While paused, drag captions and elements right on the preview.**

-   emoji, media cards and titles — anywhere in the frame;
- plaques and captions — vertically only; horizontally they are aligned to the frame.

A moved element gets a **Reset position** button in the list (for emoji — a circular-arrow icon).

## Elements on the timeline

On the elements track, the top row has the hook, plaques, titles and media cards; the bottom row has emoji and zooms. An empty track shows **Add text** (it opens the **Text** sheet).

Click an element — its tools appear at the bottom: **Edit** (opens the **Elements** mode, or the sheet for a title) and **Delete**; a card also has **Replace photo**; a zoom has a zoom-type button instead of **Edit** (see below). An element's timing changes right on the strip:

**Web**

- **Stretch or shrink** a plaque, title, card or zoom — drag the edge handle of the selected element. The edge snaps to words and markers.
- **Move** a plaque, title, card, zoom or emoji — drag the element with the mouse. Over speech it lands on the words, over a clip without speech — on the time of that clip.

**iPhone and iPad**

- **Stretch or shrink** a plaque, title, card or zoom — drag the edge handle of the selected element. The edge snaps to words and markers.
- **Move** a plaque, title, card, zoom or emoji — long-press and drag. Over speech it lands on the words, over a clip without speech — on the time of that clip.

One word can hold only one emoji: an emoji can't move onto a word that already has one. The hook is always at the start of the reel and can't be moved.

### Zoom types

On a selected zoom, the button shows its type; pressing it cycles through:

| Type | What it looks like |
| --- | --- |
| **Push in** | The camera moves in smoothly during the phrase and eases back after |
| **Pull out** | The camera moves out smoothly, revealing the frame |
| **Punch** | A sharp jump in zoom for the duration of the phrase |

## Time anchoring

An element on a clip without speech holds on to a point inside that clip — like a connected clip in professional editors. So editing clips doesn't lose it:

-   **you move the clip** — the element moves with it;
-   **you split the clip** — the element stays in the part where it was;
-   **you trim an edge** so that the element's point is cut off: if the new edge is no more than half a second away, the element moves onto the edge; otherwise it is hidden (“cut”) and comes back if you restore what was trimmed;
-   **you delete the clip** — the element is deleted with it, and **Undo** brings both back;
- **you change the speed** — the moment it appears is recalculated to match.

The length of such an element is counted in seconds of the reel, so it can run into the next clips. Elements on words, as before, travel with their words.

## Good to know

- The AI draws the images of cards added by the AI assistant on export — and export is free. Until then the preview shows a placeholder **The image will appear on export** where such a card will be. A card with your own photo or with an image from the **From a description** tab shows in the preview right away.
- With sound effects on, emoji, cards and plaques appear with a light pop ([Audio](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/editor/audio/)).
- The hook, plaques and card captions are translated together with the captions ([Translation](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/editor/translate/)).
- A reel can have up to 20 plaques, 12 media cards, 100 emoji, 100 zooms and 30 titles.
