# Rebuild with new settings

> When a reel needs a rebuild and when a free style change is enough — what the AI redoes, what a rebuild costs and what happens to your manual edits.

Source: https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/projects/remount/

Project settings come in two groups. **Style** — font, color, captions, sound effects, intro push-in — changes for free and shows up in the editor right away. **Montage settings** are what the AI decides during the montage: emoji, media cards, callouts, camera motion, hook, length, smart cut with direction and notes. To change those, the reel has to be edited again — that is a rebuild.

**Demo (iPhone):**

1. The Settings section, the “Montage settings” block
2. Turn on “Generate a hook” — the “Rebuild with new settings” button appears below
3. Tap “Smart cut” and change Pace to Dynamic, then “Done”
4. Tap “Rebuild with new settings” — a sheet with a warning and the price
5. Tap “Rebuild with new settings” in the sheet — “Rebuild started”
6. The “Re-edit by the director” run card

## What you can do without a rebuild

| What to change | Where | Price |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Font, accent, caption style, size and position, **My templates** | **Settings** → **Reel style** | free |
| **Sound effects**, **Intro push-in** | same place | free |
| Text, clip order and length, individual emoji, callouts, push-ins, music | **Editor** | free |
| Targeted edits in words | **Editor** → [AI assistant](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/ai/assistant/) | at cost, per command |
| Edits and questions for the director | [Chat with the director](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/ai/chat/) | at cost, per answer |

Style changes show up in **Editor** right away. The finished video is updated after [export](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/publish/export/).

## How to rebuild

### 1. Change the montage settings

In the **Settings** section, **Montage settings** block, switch what you need: **Emoji in captions**, **Media cards**, **Plaques & callouts**, **Camera motion**, **Generate a hook**, **Reel length**, **Smart cut** (video type, pace, effects, AI voiceover) or **Notes for the director**.

As soon as something changes, two buttons appear below: **Rebuild with new settings** with the price and **Undo changes**.

### 2. Confirm

Tap **Rebuild with new settings**. The sheet warns you: the AI edits the reel again, speech recognition and frame analysis are reused, and your manual edits are reset. It costs 24 tokens. Confirm with the same button. If you do not have enough tokens, the button says **Top up balance**.

### 3. Wait for the new reel

**Re-edit by the director** starts — the run card shows the stages. As with the first montage, the director builds the reel and checks it itself (the [self-check](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/ai/director/#self-check)). When everything is ready, the new reel becomes the current version — you can edit it right away in the **Editor** section.

> **Caution.** A rebuild resets manual edits in the editor: the reel is edited from scratch. The previous reel is not lost — it stays as a version in the [project history](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/projects/history/), and you can go back to it. Edits you have not exported are not part of any version — export the reel before rebuilding if you need them.

## Fine points

- Speech recognition and frame analysis are not repeated in a rebuild — those stages are reused.
- A rebuild is available while the project's sources are kept — 7 days after the last work on the reel.
- While a montage or rebuild is running, the settings cannot be changed — the rows are inactive.
- If a rebuild fails, the tokens are returned, and **Retry** continues from the failure point for the same price.
- Changed your mind before starting — **Undo changes** restores the project's settings.
- You can also ask for a rebuild in words in the [chat with the director](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/ai/chat/#remount): it sends a card with the new settings and the price, and the rebuild starts only when you press the button.
- In an [Edit it myself](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/projects/manual/) project, instead of a rebuild there is **Edit with the AI director**: the first montage by the director from the same files, at the same price.
