# 7. The finished reel

> The montage is ready: the director has checked the reel itself and the project opens in the editor. What the director did and where earlier versions are.

**Step 7 of 9** · about a minute

The montage is ready. The director built the reel, reviewed it itself and fixed what could be done better — there is nothing to pick. The project has opened on the **Editor** section: the preview shows the finished reel, and the timeline shows its edit.

## Watch the reel

Play the preview and watch the whole reel before you change anything: that makes it easier to see what you want to fix. In **Projects** the project's status is **Ready**, and the reel is the project's current version: edits in the editor and exports start from it.

## How the director checked the reel

Once the reel was built, the director watched it the way a viewer will: in playback order, with what is on screen and what can be heard. If there was something to improve — the logic and order of the clips, a cut-off thought — the director revised the plan, and the reel was built again. On the run card this is the **Polishing the cut** stage. More — [The self-check of the finished reel](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/ai/director/#self-check).

## What the director did

The whole course of the montage is recorded in the [Chat with the director](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/ai/chat/#journal) — open it with the chat button in the project header. In the feed:

-   **Material map** — what your material is about and who the reel is for;
-   **Director’s reasoning** — how it thought: **on the material**, **on the edit** and **on the finished cut**;
-   the version card — **Idea**, the story step by step and **How it is cut — piece by piece**: why each clip is in the reel;
- **The reel is ready** — the result of the montage.

That is also where you can ask the director why the reel is built this way or request an edit in plain words.

## Earlier versions

Every rebuild, retry, style change and export adds a new version of the reel, and the earlier ones stay in **Media** → **History**. You can bring back any of the last 10 versions with **Make current** — more in [History and versions](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/projects/history/). Or just ask in the [Chat with the director](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/ai/chat/#versions): “bring back the previous version”.

> **Tip.** Want a different approach — start with the result, make it more dynamic? Tell the director in the Chat or change the settings and run a [rebuild](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/projects/remount/): the director builds the reel again and checks it itself once more.

## What's next

**Step 8 of 9** — [First edits](https://docs.slicer.media/en/guide/tutorial/first-edits/): fix the caption text and remove what is extra.
