Tutorial: your first video — overview

Nine steps from sign-up to publishing — style, captions, media, direction, montage, the finished reel, first edits and export. Takes 10–15 minutes.

On this page

In this tutorial you will go through the whole path in Slicer: sign up, make your first reel in the wizard, wait for the montage, watch the finished reel, fix a couple of spots in the editor and publish the result. It takes 10–15 minutes, and a few of them the reel edits itself — you can do something else meanwhile.

Your first reel is free, so you do not need to buy anything for this tutorial.

What to prepare

  • Videos. 1–10 clips with speech — for example, you talk about three habits for a productive morning. B-roll without speech works too. Shoot vertically or horizontally: the AI frames it in 9:16.
  • Optional: photos (shown where they are mentioned), music (plays underneath, quieter under the voice) or a voice-over (becomes the narration).
  • Requirements: video at 720p or higher, clear speech without loud music over the voice. All formats and limits — File formats and limits.

Web or app

The tutorial works for both: the screens are the same. Where the actions differ — say, dragging files on the web and the photo library in the app — the page has “Web” and “iPhone and iPad” tabs. The demos are recorded on the real interface in a phone frame; where a mouse and keyboard are easier to show — in a browser window.
